The human in financial advice

I do like a good book, and having just read a particularly interesting piece from philosopher Dr Simon Longstaff called Everyday Ethics: The daily decisions you make & how they shape the world, I felt moved to share my favourite quote from the book:

“It [values, purpose, principles] provides a universal grammar for understanding the structure of human choice, and if one can discern what an individual or group claims to be good and right (that is, their values and principles) it is possible to make sense of the choices they make.”

This is why I believe there will never be a system, algorithm or robo-adviser that can replace what it is that a good financial adviser will do for their clients, which is to truly understand the ‘WHY’ behind the choices they make in their lives. It is the ‘HUMAN’ in financial advice.
